Terms of service
These terms are an agreement between TripDifference ("we", "us") and the business that opens an account ("you"). By creating an account or using tripdifference.com, you agree to them on your business's behalf, and you confirm you're authorized to do so. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal information.
1. What we do
We book flights for your business. After a ticket is issued, we watch its fare, and when the same flight becomes cheaper, we can exchange your ticket for the cheaper fare and get the difference back for you. We charge a fee only on money we actually recover by rebooking.
2. Your account
- Opening an account requires a valid referral code.
- Give us accurate information, especially traveler names and dates of birth, which must match travel documents. Fixing an error after a ticket is issued may cost money, or may not be possible.
- Keep your sign-in details safe. You're responsible for what's done through your account, including by the people you give access to.
- Only enter a traveler's details if you're entitled to share them with us for booking their travel.
3. Booking a flight
- We sell you the ticket. We buy it from the airline through our booking provider, Duffel, and charge your card for it. Your card statement will show TripDifference, not the airline.
- You pay the price you were shown. We first authorize your card, then capture the payment once the ticket is issued. If the airline doesn't issue the ticket, we cancel the authorization and you aren't charged.
- The airline runs the flight. The airline's fare rules and conditions of carriage apply to your ticket. They cover things like baggage, schedule changes, missed flights, denied boarding and what a change or cancellation costs. Schedule changes, delays and cancellations made by the airline are outside our control.
- Travelers are responsible for their own passports, visas, health requirements and getting to the airport on time.
4. Fare monitoring and rebooking
- We monitor and exchange only tickets we issued. We can't exchange a booking made somewhere else.
- Whether a ticket can be exchanged, and on what terms, is decided by the airline. Many fares, including most basic economy fares, can't be changed at all. Before purchase, we can only estimate whether a fare will be eligible.
- An exchange moves the traveler to the same flight at a lower fare. We exchange a ticket either when someone on your account confirms it, or automatically when the exchange returns at least a minimum amount to you and costs you nothing. We never automatically make an exchange that you would have to pay for.
- We don't promise that fares will drop, that we'll catch every drop, or that any particular amount will be recovered.
5. Refunds and airline credit
When a ticket is exchanged or cancelled, the airline decides how any money comes back:
- Cash. The airline refunds us, and we refund that amount to the card you paid with.
- Airline credit in the traveler's name. It's subject to the airline's rules, including expiry dates and who can use it, and it can't be turned into cash or moved to another person.
- Nothing. Some fares return nothing on a change or cancellation.
We show you what the airline is offering before you confirm.
6. Our fee
- Our only fee is a success fee: a percentage of the money recovered when we rebook a ticket for less, whether it comes back as cash or as airline credit. Your rate is shown when you add your card and in Settings. There is no subscription.
- We charge the fee to your card on file once the saving reaches you, meaning when the cash refund is sent to your card or the airline credit is issued. The fee is a separate charge and is never deducted from your refund.
- There's no fee on a cancellation, on money the airline doesn't return, or when nothing is saved.
- If you dispute a charge with your card issuer, please contact us first. We're usually faster.
7. Scouts
If you join our referral program as a scout, these additional terms apply:
- You earn a share of the success fees we actually collect from businesses you refer, at the rate we agree with you. If we refund a fee or it's disputed, the earning on it is reversed or deducted from a later payout.
- Payouts are made through Stripe Connect in US dollars, on the schedule shown in your scout dashboard. You're responsible for the taxes on what you earn.
- You can't refer yourself or your own business, and you can't misrepresent TripDifference, our fees or what we can save. You can't spam, and you can't run paid ads on our name.
- We can end a scout's participation at any time. Earnings already confirmed before then will still be paid.
8. Acceptable use
Don't use TripDifference to break the law or an airline's rules. That includes speculative or fictitious bookings, hidden-city or throwaway ticketing, and reselling tickets. Don't interfere with or probe the service, use automated tools to access it, use a payment card you aren't authorized to use, or try to see another business's data.
9. Ending your account
You can stop using TripDifference at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, is used for fraud, or leaves fees unpaid. Closing an account doesn't cancel tickets already issued, and doesn't cancel fees for savings already delivered.
10. Disclaimers
We work hard to keep TripDifference accurate and available. Except where the law doesn't allow it, the service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. Fares, availability and eligibility information come from airlines and Duffel, and they can change or be wrong.
11. Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits, missed meetings or the cost of alternative travel. That includes losses caused by an airline's acts or omissions. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the success fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. This doesn't limit the airline's obligations to travelers, or any liability that can't be limited by law.
12. Indemnity
You'll cover our reasonable losses arising from inaccurate information you give us, from bookings you weren't authorized to make, or from your breach of these terms.
13. Changes
We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date at the top, and we'll tell account holders about significant changes before they take effect. If you keep using TripDifference after a change takes effect, you're accepting the new terms.
